Oľga Zápotočná, PhD., Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Trnava University, specialized for language and literacy development and education in early childhood.
She graduated in Psychology at Comenius University in Bratislava (1980) and received her PhD degree from Slovak Academy of Sciences at the Institute of Experimental Psychology (1988) where she was working as research assistant and junior researcher fellow. Her doctoral thesis was aimed at the study of cognitive processes in reading and reading difficulties. Since 1990 she works also as senior researcher fellow at the Institute for Research in Communication at SAS, at present as a leading member of the Centre for Research in Education, founded in 2011. With her scientific works (published about 130 articles including books) she contributes to the reading research from the perspectives of cognitive and sociocultural theories of literacy. Her latest works and research projects are aimed at the study of metacognition in reading and reading comprehension, in a view of its development in early childhood, specifically in relation to children from low socio‑economical background. In her career as university teacher she has been engaged in collaboration with several bodies working in a field of teacher education, she is a member of International Literacy Association, has been a member of its European Committee (IDEC), and the chair of Slovak Reading Association. Since 2014 she is involved in one of the COST Actions (IS1404) E‑READ, aimed at Evolution of reading in the age of digitization. |
