Lecturing Styles
Lecturing styles are influenced by cultural or educational background of a lecturer. On the other hand, the chosen style while delivering a lecture can be influenced by target language proficiency.
READING
  • short tone-groups,
  • narrowness of intonational range,
  • a falling tone predominates.
 
CONVERSATIONAL
  • informal,
  • long tone-groups,
  • key-sequences from high to low.
 
RHETORICAL
  • wide intonational range,
  • often exploiting high key,
  • frequent asides and digressions.
 
In some countries, traditional monologue is predominantly a lecturing style. In western countries there is an increasing use of an informal, conversational style, based on notes or handouts. In the USA, there is a lot of interaction between a lecturer and students.
