Ability to Distinguish
Apart from distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information, important and less important information, a good EAP reader is able to distinguish between:
  • factual and non-factual information
  • explicit and implicit information
  • ideas and examples and opinions
Selecting a proper information from the passage is very important. During academic discussions, whatever is said should be valid, providing evidence for your claims. While reading you need to be selective, using techniques like highlighting. Using different colours can help you differentiate the categories you need.
