Definitions of English for Academic Purposes
Task 1: Choose one of the definitions and justify one of them or prepare your own.

Definition 1
EAP is concerned with those communication skills in English which are required for study purposes in formal education systems (ETIC 1975)

Definition 2
EAP has two divisions: it may be either common core or subject-specific (Coffey 1984). English for General Academic Purposes is more usually known as study skills such as listening and note-taking, etc. English for Specific Academic Purposes is the language needed for a particular academic subject together with its disciplinary culture. It includes the language structure, vocabulary, the particular skills needed for the subject, and the appropriate academic conventions.

Definition 3
EAP is a branch of ESP, it is a specific purpose language teaching, differentiated from EOP (English for Occupational Purposes) by the type of learner: future or practising student as opposed to employee or worker. EAP can appear to be very general in scope, however, as the same courses and materials can be aimed at students from a wide variety of academic disciplines. Within such general courses, components aimed at students from specific disciplines might be found.
